Mercedes-Benz Actros is 2020 International Truck of the Year
Each year, a truck is awarded the International Truck of the Year. Each Manufacturer contributes some sturdy competition and this year in particular was challenging for judges to pick which vehicle they think is best for HGV drivers. This can drive up sales of the vehicles and add to a manufacturer’s reputation on an international scale.

This year, the Mercedes-Benz Actros was voted for and won International Truck of the Year for 2020. As decided by the jury of 24 who consisted of trucking editors and journalists – each representing their respective magazines which reach all across Europe with the latest updates on transport.

To be a contesting truck, the vehicle will need to have been previously introduced to the market within the last 12 months and offered a great contribution during its time in the market. Some of the criteria include: tech innovation, drivability, comfort, safety, fuel, environmental footprint in addition to the cost of ownership.

During the citation, members of the jury praised the vehicle’s introduction of the MirrorCam system, set to replace traditional exterior rear-view mirrors and appropriately supports the driver during manoeuvres. This offers a more aerodynamic efficiency and additional visibility.

Speaking on the award and the impact it can have on the market, was Fergus Conheady, Sales Manager for Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles in Ireland, who said: “Whilst retaining all of the operational excellence that have made successive Actros models the truck-of-choice for so many, this latest award is a recognition of the giant leap forward in terms of innovation and technology that makes the new Actros a standard-setter in the field of long-distance haulage”.
