Mayor Boris Johnson says no toll for Blackwall Tunnel
London Mayor Boris Johnson took to Twitter yesterday seemingly dismissing claims that the Blackwall Tunnel linking the east and south-east of the city could be tolled.
Transport for London (TfL) is currently consulting on ways to make journeys across the River Thames west of the Dartford Crossing easier which includes a proposal for a tolled Silvertown Tunnel between the Greenwich Peninsula and Silvertown.
The consultation, which runs until 1st February 2013, suggests that if the Silvertown Tunnel is built and subject to tolling, the Blackwall Tunnel would also need to be tolled otherwise there would be serious delays at Blackwall as traffic diverts to avoid paying.
However Mayor Johnson tweeted under his “Ask Boris” session yesterday that “We won't toll Blackwall as long as I am mayor - but new tunnels need funding”
